"They were much more concerned with the institution than they were with the victims of sexual assault." I suspect that's been the prevailing theme in most of the cover-ups. With souls at stake, we cannot afford to jeopardize the reputation and strength of the church. Pedophiles are destructive, but so are grizzly bears-both can be tracked and put down if need be. Knowing that you placed predators among the sheep and then reassuring the flock that they were safe is a distinct form of evil.
