Coma and Brain Damage

Saying it's "police procedure" doesn't make it right. If you saw some high-velocity police officer running at you, you might run too.

High Ranking Church Official Convicted of Covering Up Abuse

"They were much more concerned with the institution than they were with the victims of sexual assault." I suspect that's been the prevailing theme in most of the cover-ups. With souls at stake, we cannot afford to jeopardize the reputation and strength of the church.  Pedophiles are destructive, but so are grizzly bears-both can be tracked and put down if need be. Knowing that you placed predators among the sheep and then reassuring the flock that they were safe is a distinct form of evil.

Hitchens Undermines The Church

Angry God hater Christoper Hitchens offers a concise institutional criticism of the Catholic Church:

Vermont.

Another disgruntled police officer snaps. Apparently, he was known for his temper:

Idaho Cops Sodomize Man with Tazer

Do I need to say anything else?

Hawaii Cop Doesn't Like Journalists

It seems obvious enough that uniformed police officers in public areas are subject to being filmed and photographed. In reality, many cops will just arrest journalists or videographers anyway, even if they know their charges against the photographers or cameramen won't stick.

North Carolina

Poorly trained police officers are also culpable for their brutality. Note that the victim is scared and keeps trying to hide behind the more rational cop, hoping to avoid the tall black cop's blows. If the rationale for the strikes was that officer had ordered the suspect to get on the ground, then one might wonder why the police hadn't just pulled him to the ground. Moreover, the victim is understandably panicked. Police officers often order you to be still while at the same time putting you in painful postures that are hard to maintain.

South Carolina Officer Deliberately Hitting Suspect with His Car

Yes: reasonable that cop pursues fleeing suspect.

No:  police officers should not try to hit fleeing suspects with their cars.

Virginia (Sunday School Shooting Revisited)

This officer snapped and shot the Sunday school teacher. He was eventually charged with murder. Apparently, his mother worked with the police and may have forged some of his files.

Cops Calling The Shots (West Virginia)

I guess my cultural biases prevent me from being too surprised that there was voter fraud in the West Virginia Democratic primary, but I would suggest that a sheriff attempting to rig elections is an institutional problem.

South Dakota (Some Debate)

Many people aren't certain that this is police brutality, but  to me it seems clear that the officer puts this woman in a chokehold for not doing what whatever it is he wants. Was action warranted? Probably, but I'm not a big fan of police chokeholds-it's kind of hard not to resist them..

North Dakota

The Dakotas seem to make for slim pickings when it comes to police brutality and misconduct-at least that's what cursory, unprofessional research would suggest. If I'm wrong, inform me, but credit where credit is due. I guess. I did find an article about a somewhat abusive, unprofessional police officer in North Dakota.

Blemished Officer

Rhoad Island

The mentally ill don't always fare well in their interactions with cops. The fact that the cops failed to notify family members and  their attorney for 15 hours after the victim's death is inherently suspect. I appreciate that this knife wielding man might have been dangerous, but compassion should have informed the police officers action once they had him subdued.

New Jersey (Cop Gets Roughed up by Cops)

So if their stories are to be believed one cop is driving 90 in an unmarked car out of uniform while the others cops are letting their stress and fear get the better of them and  roughing up a fellow officer in the process. What does this say about the average cop's state of mind?

Pennsylvania (cover up)

           Shades of Trayvon Martin.

Oklahoma Troopers vs. Their Mortal Enemies-EMTs.

Some might say a police officer pulling over a speeding ambulance and harrassing
the EMT's who operate the vehicle shows poor judgement. In any event, the trooper in question was suspended for 5 days  and ordered to undergo anger management.

Orgeon

Again, another police officer getting his job back after "questionable" behavior.

New Mexico (Fired Cop Gets Rehired)

After beating a teenager who spat on him (which would make anyone angry, but cops have to control their tempers) the officer was fired. A few years later, the police officer was rehired by another police department.

Ohio (More Cops Beating Teenagers)

I have no idea what precipitated this.

Principals, Teachers, now Cops (New Hampshire)

So a high school student swipes his sister's purse and won't give it back. Teachers and the principal escalate the situation and before too long the student ends up suspended. For reasons I don't begin to understand,  a detective is on the scene. The kid asks "what the fuck" he got arrested for and apparently that's too much for our high-strung flatfoot. Aren't you glad the police got involved in this one?

Nebraska

I always thought Omaha was dull.

Nevada

I wonder if the vet was overconfident that his status as a returning soldier would accord him special privileges. Either way, he did something that pulled the cop's trigger. If I'm not mistaken, the cops cleared themselves of any wrongdoing here.

Montana

This is just plain home video, but I think it tells enough of the story.

Minnesota

Anyone who visits this blog understands why cops don't like cameras.

Mississippi

One word for this: bullying

Missouri

Notice that internal affairs cleared him-it was only the chief that fired him. In other words, cops don't like to turn on other cops. It was only the politically sensitive police chief that was resolute or savvy enough to fire the offending officer. Do you think this would have played out the same if it hadn't been on camera?

Michigan

The police officer who Tazed the handcuffed man was suspended for two weeks without pay. Even so, ardent police supporters can't imagine what the police officer had possibly done wrong.

Not quite a police beating, but this is Massachusetts

This police officer was running a prostitution ring and mailing murdered rats to deadbeat johns. Something tells me it wouldn't be too difficult to get him to beat the right person.

Sorry, no video, just a news article (Maine)

Louisiana.

Yes, this officer was fired, but this is hardly the only case of a disgruntled off duty cop brandishing a weapon or otherwise cracking up on someone. It's good that the mushrooms get picked, but the problem is that they keep on popping up.

Indiana

No internal investigation took place.

Iowa Police Brutailty (Two Dead Dogs)

I think this is an adequate demonstration of Iowan police brutality. There is always the chance here that the victims are lying, but something tells me our bad-ass Iowan heroes were just a little trigger happy.

Delaware

Okay, so the new state on my list is Delaware. Listen to the audio link below for evidence of police brutality in Delaware. I'm going to skip Florida and Georgia because those two states have more than enough cases of police brutality that are well known.

Radio

Note that radio program is hardly objective, but neither were they pulling details out of thin air.

Police Brutality by State A-C

So I've been typing police brutality and then the name of  a state alphabetically. For example, when I Googled "Alabama police brutality" I found some footage of a man who had led police on a high speed chase getting beaten once the cops caught up with him. Those officers were fired. The link below involves a Little Rock, Arkansas police officer slamming a handcuffed man into a glass door. Arizona police brutality usually produces video footage of a man lying face down in a pool of his own blood at a Walmart. Give the devil his due, I didn't find any convincing Alaskan police brutality.  I didn't find any great or damning Connecticut footage either, although I noticed a fair amount of protests against police brutality. As for California, well, I don't think I need to convince too many that police brutality occurs in the land of fruits and nuts.

Cult within A Church.

The Roman Catholic Church and  faith is broad and extensive enough that I think it's unfair to call it a cult. However, some restrictive orders of nuns and monks could be seen as cult-like from the outside. That said, the cloistered lifestyle is a special one that isn't necessarily seen as a threat to individual freedom and dignity. Opus Dei is a bridge between conservative religious orders and the general public. Could Opus Dei be said to have a stranglehold over its members lives?

Cop Punches Retarded Woman Then Tries to Cover it Up.

Kudos to the citizen journalist for documenting this unnecessary blow and for standing his ground when the police officers tried to confiscate his cell phone.

"The Video Speaks for Itself"

-Dash cam wasn't on for long periods of time

-Male and female officers strip female victim.

-Victims was left naked in her cell for 6 hours

-Note that bullshit resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer charges. If police abuse victims, they often charge them with those crimes in order to protect themselves in court.

Beating A Dead Horse

This is the last article I'll post about pedophile priests in the United States and Western Europe, barring any particularly important changes or revelations. I've already said that fallout continues, and I don't think we've seen the end of the problem. This link to a New York Times article is interesting because of its mention of Catholic advocacy groups trying to suppress victim rights groups, the fact the Church is still slow to hold itself accountable, and the proof that this vile phenomenon has plagued pretty much all of Western Europe and The United States. There is also mention of an effort to see the International Criminal Court prosecute the church, which might be the best way to confront an entity like The Vatican.

I Agree: Ending Celibacy and Ordaining Women Would Reduce Abuse

Captain Obvious Strikes Again: Not All Police Abuse is Physical

I'm not a big fan of police check points and arbitrary pull-overs. The cops questionable behaviors here may be motivated by their pursuit of revenue.

Police Chief Isn't Sure Police Officer Shouldn't Have Beaten Man in Coma

A cop's individual abuse is only one part of the problem. The police chief's hesitation to concede any wrongdoing on his officer's part fuels the perception  that cops can't be trusted to regulate their own.

Cop Beats "Lippy" Girl

"Assaulting a police officer" certainly merits and necessitates a response, but we might ask our literal minded law enforcement officers if a shoe being kicked in his direction necessitates him punching, slamming against the wall, and taking a "lippy" teenager to the ground. Apparently, this burned-out cop just couldn't stomach attitude from a teenage girl.

Peaceful Retarded Man Tazed.

This supports my argument that Tazers should only be used as an alternative to lethal force. We cannot trust the judgement of many police officers when it comes to using these torture devices.

Tazed For Taking Too Long in The Bathroom

We know that screaming and thrashing about while  injured can get you Tazed, and we know that  if you're at a public, university forum, insisting your question gets answered by politicans who are in fact willing to answer the question might get you a few volts too. Well, apparently, if you're on the throne and things aren't coming out in a smooth or timely manner, the police might have to rectify that  too. Do you still think Tazers should be standard issue?

What Are The Bishops Doing about It?

Clearly, the the rampant criminality of the priesthood in the United States is being addressed, but in the old world, the Church still has trouble being accountable to secular authorities.

Huffington Post-Ten Years Later

Fallout

I think that the perception is that most of the Catholic abuse scandals have resolved themselves, but the fallout continues.

"Total Compliance"

Many police officers will say that have to have "total compliance" from a suspect before they can handcuff him and consider him subdued. However, a suspect who is getting struck repeatedly with baton blows may find it rather difficult not too move around or otherwise have physical reactions.

Police Officers Slam Handcuffed Man's Head Against The Wall

The police chief rationalizes his officer's behavior.

When The Cameras Are Off

Again, a stressed out police officer beats an aggressive victim. Clearly, burnout and violent anger are never too far away from America's police departments. This is part of the reason why we need to embrace radical reform of the police concept in particular and American society in general.

Cop Throws Man out of His Wheelchair

Did you notice how the other deputies demanded to know what exactly the female deputy thought she was doing? Did you see their outrage in how they immediately confronted the deputy in question and reproached her for her lack of professionalism? No, you didn't. Psychos may occasionally sneak into the ranks and occasionally be removed, but police officers backing up  and enabling unprofessional or abusive officers seems to be a constant.

Is This the Next Abuse Scandal for The Church?

Priests, on the whole, have never been truly celibate. Many priests have girlfriends on the side, and we've learned all too well about the other forms of sexual activity many have chosen to engage in. Predator priests have also been known to violate their vow of chastity by abusing nuns.  Biggest duh of the year: priests need tobe allowed to marry.

Nuns Punishing Disabled Boy

It's rare that the abuse of children by the Church is caught in footage. This video may show just that. Every single instance of abuse in Catholic facilities doesn't imply endemic abuse, but  I think the attempt to rationalize the abuse here makes this clip worth featuring.

Your Call #2 (Cop Shoots Sunday School Teacher)

What exactly transpired here is unknown, but it seems very unlikely that lethal force was necessary.

Your Call #1

There is no footage of the altercation in question, but the fact is an accidental medical alarm resulted in the cops shooting an elderly man.

Cops Flip Over Woman's Vehicle

This woman didn't pull over immediately, so the cop who was attempting to pull her over flipped her car over. Shortly after the car gets flipped over, Officer Friendly then decided to administer a sobriety test.  Some people  claimed that her refusal to immediately pull over merited this response, although their claim might be undermined by the fact that she was awarded  $275,000 in damages for civil rights violations.

One Sided

As I've mentioned before, abusive police officers have to control the way information is presented in order to cover for themselves and their departments.

Oakland vs Occupy

My read on the situation is this: Oakland Police and Occupy have been "doing battle." The Oakland Police Officer therefore identifies all crowds close to the police line/barricade as potential threats. He then completely overlooks the fact that the group in front of him is crouched to the ground and attending a wounded individual and decides to toss a low-grade explosive at the crowd. Problem solved. I think this is a generous interpretation. Normally, I prefer to use mainstream media or quality journalism to document abuse, but in this case I think the activist or sympathizer who uploaded the video does a job of pointing out what exactly happened.

Watering The Plants/Macing The Students

Police want compliance. Students will not comply. Police torture students. The only violent people in this video are in uniform.

Catalog of Abuse

Disciplinarian Nuns and Physical Abuse

Communication Is The Enemy.

Usually, police brutality seems to be  a product of cops with frayed nerves and pent-up aggression. After  a days worth of verbal abuse, dealing with low lifes, and feeling in constant danger, adrenalin will rush through the blood after a perceived insult or fight. In this case, I think there is some definite anger, but I suspect the cop who struck the other cop's son was trying to prevent the story from getting out before the police officers involved in the altercation had time to filter the story. Some commenters on the thread for this video noted that camera  suspiciously pans away before the action has stopped.

Hypocrisy and Evil

The Catholic Church castrating boys for their "homosexuality":http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-17453849   Most likely, the boys were being punished for speaking out against their abuse.

Monsters

This school was staffed and taught by monsters and people who ignored what the monsters did. Read this article and tell me if you don't picture medevil, deformed abbots coveting lambs.  Priests and monks need to turn on predators in their brotherhoods. I don't trust the police on much, but I doubt they'll ignore the sexual abuse of children. This article by The Guardian is first rate. Please note, this blog isn't monetized, and I don't profit by it.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2005/nov/19/publicschools.schools

"Out of Character"

As you watch this, try to imagine the officer's motivation for hanging up on a teenage girl who was trying to get an ambulance for her ailing father. The officer doesen't like the foul language or perceived disrespect, so he decides to deny urgently needed care. He could have cost that woman's father his life. I sense some insecurity and burnout on the part of this cop.  I don't support making anyone homeless or stripping anyone of their health insurance, but I don't think this officer should have kept his job after his misdeeds, "out of character"  or not.

So Why Did Someone with A Broken Back Have To Be Tased?

What do you think happened here? Is there a small chance that he posed a threat to officers? Did cops with  poor critical thinking skills determine he was unruly and therefore and had to be subdued? Did some stupid idiot just lose his temper with a clearly physically injured and irrational teenager?

Officer's Indiscretion

Ideally, anyone in a law enforcement position would be nearly free of racial prejudice, service minded, tough, secure, and capable of using both discretion and judgement. Robots who are slaves to policy, and  see nothing wrong with handling 84 year old suspects, moms driving minivans full of kids, or small, drunk women the same exact way they'd handle convicted felons, physically aggressive muscleheads or crackheads are, obviously, not ideal police officers. Being a police officer carries certain risks, but, contrary to popular opinion, it's far from being the most dangerous job. Traffic and automobiles are just as risky, if not more risky, to police officers than suspects with firearms. The  officer in question here claimed he was using his training when kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach. At best, he was oblivious to the fact that she was pregnant, which would make him thick as hell. At worst, he got emotional and fell back on some obscure and unrelated training and decided to kick a loudmouthed pregnant woman in the stomach. Note that his suprevisors and I.A. pretty much rubber stamped his actions.

Ipse Dixit

I'm just going to post this link. It seems to speak for itself. The man was naked, lying in the snow, and being beaten and Tazed. There's a possibility of a heated physical struggle that the viewer can't see, but it seems pretty clear something sadistic was happening. Note that the police officers give contradictary orders to the victim. I wonder if their reports mentioned that the suspect failed comply with orders given  by the officers.

Ohio Cop's Death Threats Cost Him Job.

This cop was fired. I suggest you watch the whole video on YouTube and then ask yourself if he would've been fired if his verbal abuse and death threats hadn't been recorded by the dash cam. I'm not normally a huge gun rights advocate because most of those folks seem to have an unhealthy gun fetish. That said, my own opinions don't matter. This cop was a bad day away from killing someone "in the line of duty" and getting away with it. In any event, a small victory and you'll note that this wasn't a unique instance of bad behavior on this officer's part.
Obviously, not all police abuse involves pints of blood, broken bones, or trips to the morgue. In this particular video, the Seattle Police Department sanctions an officer kicking some poor schlub whom they had detained. According to the video's description, the victim had nothing to do with the robbery that was being investigated. How many stressed out, jaded cops freely engage in casual violence while their fellow officer watch?

Brotherhood Goes Bankrupt from Paying out to Abuse Victims

What Do You Think?

In many instances, the Catholic Church has paid off victims or settled out of court and no one ends up getting convicted. I don't know exactly what happened here, but one can easily see this as attempting to buy silence or sweep wrongdoing under the rug. I credit bishopaccountability.org for this link  http://www.bishop-accountability.org/news3/2002_06_30_Stacey_InMy_Gregory_AND_Sullivan_2.htm

Respecting Authority

The victims in this video were a man and his mother, simply coming home from work. You'll notice that the cop seems to find the fact the man isn't nervous or deferential offensive. The man seems to pass all the sobriety tests, but because of a little bit of attitude (maybe) these cops decide to teach him a lesson on who works for who. The cops later rationalize their behavior using words like behavior "manifestations" and "edginess." One excuse for this behavior might be that pulled over motorists are the number one hazard for police officers, but keep in mind, although being a police officer is undoubtedly very stressful, it is far from being the most dangerous occupation in the United States. From now on, whenever I interact with police officers, I will show some fear and address cops as either "sir" or "officer." My guess is that greatly reduces my chances of getting arrested or beaten.

Torture

The TASER is a police torture tool that seems like something inspired by dystopian science fiction. Every cop seems to carry one now, although they are best used as the only alternative to lethal force. The following video doesn't show the entire confrontation, but clearly an officer opted for torture over any actual physical contact or further negotiation.

Serial Abuse of Children by Priest

One example of rampant sexual abuse that has probably resulted in dozens of marred lives. There should be a governmental organization that closely supervises priests and organizations that have demonstrated a propensity for fbcilitating serious abuse of children in particular and parishioners in general.
So an alleged pedophile priest got hired as a baggage screening cop by the T.S.A. Please don't argue with my use of the term "cop" here. He's a government agent who's hired to provide security. Unrelatedly, are there any dioceses where there haven't been allegations of sexual abuse?

Actually, I Don't Find It Hilarious

Newsflash: not all police abuse is physical in nature. Captain Obvious would like to remind you that police officers also routinely violate your constitutional rights  and, in other cases, verbally abuse those they interact with. Keep in mind, I don't fault the cop for pulling over this particular ledfoot, but just between you and me, I'd rather not have police officers threaten people with what a friend of mine referred to as "rape by proxy." No, I don't think the cop in this video should go to prison or get fired, but a few unpaid days off and some meetings with men who've been raped might convince him to consider his words more carefully.

New Jersey Police Department Countenances Abuse

The first question I have while watching this is "Since when do men have to wear shirts in public?" After that, this seems to be a pretty open and shut case of criminal behavior on the part of a law enforcement officer. It seemed a little overly cautious of the anchorwoman to ask if the police officer went too far. There's no question the officer went too far. The question is "why?"  The female police officer should have aggressively intervened to prevent this, but cops rarely physically confront other officers who are abusive.

Horseback Assault

There are any number of articles/ videos that hint at police abuse, and there are many situations where an officer may be justified in using some kind of force, but simply chooses to use excessive force due to a lack of training, panic, or whatever. Having said that, there are some situations where stressed out, angry police officers simply explode with violence on whomever has the misfortune of interacting with said pig. The videos I show over the next few days, weeks, whatever will be instance of blatant misconduct, violence, or verbal abuse.

The first YouTube link is a perfect example of a violent and deranged  police officer, who  fearing a riot or melee, attacks some kid for no good reason. Immediately,  fellow officers back up the abuser unquestioningly and join in on the beating. Afterwards, they all lie about it and accuse their victim of "assaulting a police officer."
