The Michigan State Police, by some accounts, was formed to put down popular uprisings, strikes and so on. Troopers just following orders pepper sprayed overwhelmingly non-violent protesters at the Michigan's state capitol. This is the second act of obvious aggession from troopers towards union activists in as many weeks.
The problem is institutional, not individual. Do not grant cops your unwavering trust.

A Highly Decorated Menace
A highly decorated member of the police department's SWAT team snapped and put a man in the hospital. Police officers don't become violent thugs because they're evil. They become evil because they burn out and are protected from being accountable for their actions by fellow officers.
Probably Not a Move Found in Any Police Training Manuals

Denver Police Department at Its Finest
So many police reports seem to be contradicted by cell phone, surveillance, or hand held video. This is a great example.
Cop Threatens to Make Up Phony Charges against Motorist
This amateur filmmaker, if we can call him that, has the goods on a tyrant in a police officer's uniform. The camera records a police officer threatening to charge the motorist with phony crimes. The officer is clearly, dangerously burned out. This video is a few years old, but something tells me more than a few people have stories like this; they just didn't have the camera needed to tell the story later.
Murderers, Rapists, and Those Whose Record The Police.
A friend forwarded this to me. It's a reminder that many cops are absolutely hostile to cameras and exposure. Apparently, all charges were dropped against the man who dared record the police.

Junkie Cop Stealing and Selling Guns
Yet another instance of criminal behavior on the part of the New York Police Department.
Cop Murders Biker
There are any number of of videos on Youtube that provide almost incontrovertable proof of murder committed by uniformed American police officers. Here is one of them.
Get Off That Bike!
Yet another burned out, dangerous cop overreacting and punching someone. Once more, he twists a suspect up in a painful position while other officers tell her to stop moving.
Boss Hog, West Coast
Public servants in general are underpaid, even police officers all things considered. On the other hand, police culture, which nurtures secretiveness and doubletalk is still a breeding ground for old fashioned corruption. This crook cop earned nearly half a million one year.
Boss Hogg and The Drug Ring
Swimming in blood, you wouldn't believe me. The problem is institutional, not a few bad apples. This is ironclad proof.
Crackhead Cop
Carrying a badge, gun, and eightball. Yes, apparently the police ignored one of their own smoking crack while on duty. Make your own joke here.

The Church Is Still Hiding Abuse
Any other institution that had covered up abuse and protected as many abusers as The Church would be reviled and hated. As a no longer extant organization, discussion of its fate would be fogone and academic. The Holy See, Church of Rome's hiearchy manages to obscure everyone's assesment of its organization and legacy. I don't have a problem with the Mass, the theology of Catholicism, or Christianity, but an old medeval hiearchy of celibate men does not mix well with modern society.

Torturous and Dangerous
Police officers use Tasers to torture anyone they deem as disobedient. Police officers with control issues now have a device that makes non-compliance painful. The makers of the Taser tout it a a non-lethal alternative that saves lives, but more and more activists and physicians are taking issue with that assesment.

"This had a significant impact on the community and how it viewed its police department,"
This has all the traits of a typical 21st Century American police brutality case: police brutalizing a mentally ill man, a cover up, and no justice until a higher, seperate authority moves in to spite the local police force.

If I were asked about that "YouTube video where the cops beats the shit out of that guy in the wheelchair," I would have to respond to the question "Which one?"

Cops Brutalize Teenagers
Cops need to study constitutional law and court rulings continually, so that when they inevitably ignore the rulings and violate rights, they can't feign ignorance. You may defeat the cops in court, but you'll rarely defeat them at the scene of their crime. Suffice to say, if you're going to film them, don't involve yourself in the fray.
Cops Caught Planting Drugs and Letting Dog Attack Suspect
The point is made: this is obviously not the first and only time these cops have brutalized and planted drugs on their victims. You must assume that for every act you see on YouTube, another such violation occurs off camera. You could watch American police brutality all day on YouTube.... so what does that tell you?

To Protect and Serve Man
This has to be one of the more obvious reasons for not granting unwavering trust to cops: some of them like to eat people. Truth is stranger than fiction. Perhaps police departments aren't doing an adequate job when it comes to screening would be public servants/ law enforcers.

Police Attack Jewish Youth Center
My impression is that early on in the video the female police officer tries to restrain her fellow officer. Heistant, she tries to understand why her partner is reacting the way he does. Not to worry though, the blue code kicks in, and once her partner begins smacking the shit out of the homeless youth, she puts her departmental loyalty first and joins in on the beating. Not all cops initiate aggressive behavior or unnecessary violence, but virtually no police officers report or intervene against police brutality when they see it. A police assault on Jewish youth center makes me wonder if police brutality is becoming more widespread.
Orders And Reality
The police officers indicate very early on in the video that they know they're on camera. Then, after throwing the motorist around, the cops pull him onto the ground, well out of camerashot. It's very clear that the cops are twisting his arms and probably applying pressue to his spine while telling him "not to move." Cops give impossible to follow orders while hurting "supsects" because it covers their asses in court. "No,sir, I repeatedly asked the suspect to stay still and give me his arm." At about 6:30, it becomes clear that this has devolved into low-grade torture. "Stop resisting," they tell him while twisting his arm into a painful position. I wonder if this all started because the swine needed a pretext to search his car?
Holy Sisters Are Wholely Human
I'm going to avoid the cheapshot here. This only reminds us that the church's venerated orders are perfectly human. I hope this woman manages to recover from whatever is driving her to such behaviors.

Courteously Trampling All Over You
Police officers desperate to make a bust in order to have something to justify their paycheck may very well violate your rights. The most interesting observations afforded by this video, in my opinion are as follows:
1 The cop's demeanor is very non- confrontational. His patina of professionalism is never blemished. Ironic, considering just how aggressive and desperate he is to walk all over the rights of these two guys.
2 The victim cum "cameraman" here seems to think the cop's description of the passenger as "nervous" was the legal pretext for detaining the car.Cops often make highly subjective, bullshit cover stories with terms like "erratic behavior," "abnormal behavioral manifestations," and so on. I suspect the victim should have told the police officer that he didn't consent to any kind of search and then left, but then again, the cop might have have arrested him for that. I would have stated for the record that I didn't consent to any search.
3 Whoever rehired this once fired (that rhymed) police officer must have done a piss poor background check.
4 The officer keeps on saying "I'm not overly concerned about anything for personal use," implying that he wouldn't arrest the driver or passenger for just having a little marijuana or cocaine. In fact, he would have arrested them on the spot and impounded the car if he had found any marijuana on the car.

TSA Thieves
There is the assumption that law enforcement is honest and to be taken at its word. That said, law enforcement is a very wordly, human business. Sorry, Uncle Charlie, but cops do lie fairly regularly.
See No Evil
The police chief may have refused to view the footage because he wants to be able to state in court that he hadn't seen any footage before he cleared the officers in question.
Guilty Behavior
The Seattle area never fails to provide fresh footage of atrocities and abuses. Beyond the obvious aggression, what caught my attention was the detail about the jail turning the victims away, the pigs then cleaning their faces of blood, and driving around for hours until the swelling goes down. Defense and civil rights lawyers should watch out for that as a guilty behavior.

Sometimes I Think Women Should Run The Catholic Church
I guess my opinion doesn't matter as I'm not Catholic. Even so, I'll observe that the Church tries to weigh in on political matters involving same-sex marriage, abortion, and censorship issues while on the other hand, there seems to be less of a mandate when it comes to economic justice which is also part of the Church's platform, but just isn't as much fun for angry old men to wax eloquent on.
Oh well, I've said time and time again, I have problems with medieval hierarchies, falsely pious predators, and those who would claim moral authority they don't have. But to clarify, I don't have a problem with Catholicism per se or Catholics. I just think it's time for the x-y members of the church to step down and let some reasonable women assume the throne.
Cops Hits A Suspect Over The Head So Hard That His Gun Goes Off
The police officer wrote the report to better justify his aggressive behavior. Police officers do that all the time, and unless there's a camera on them, no one is the wiser. Even those skeptical of the police department take their word over that of a suspect's for the most part. Think about that next time someone accuses a police officer of brutality and you don't believe them. There is no shortage of footage proving that police officers routinely lie about violent interactions with suspects.

Denial
While I was watching a documentary on a mosque being established somewhere in the deep, ignorant, Pentecostal South, it dawned on me that many people say the exact opposite of what they actually think-the kicker is that they honestly don't believe that they're being dishonest or contradicting themselves! The residents of this town tried to prevent the building of this Mosque by citing concerns over traffic, the ecological impact of coffin-less burial on the local watershed, as well as the rapid approval of the building permit. They conflated Islam with a radical interpretation of Sharia law and worried that the mosque would be a training ground for future terrorists. They said all of this, but at the same time insisted that they respected the right of Muslims to worship and practice their religion. One reactionary protester drawled "We don't hate'em. We just don't want'em around here." Another patrician lady, a town matriarch from old money, gently acknowledged that she knew many good Muslim people, but later conceded that she was worried the mosque would lead to a society like the Taliban's, where women were mutilated by having acid thrown on their faces for not covering up. If this seems off topic to you, just consider how many cops who taze and rough up suspects/victims will rationalize it by saying that they're just doing their job, and their actions have nothing to do with racism or any other form of bias. In this case, a 12 year old girl gets tazed as a result of local yokel police investigating her mother for unpaid traffic tickets. This didn't happen as the result of "mom's" car being pulled over. For some reason, some presumably white people, who would probably tell you they weren't racist, called the police, who were "just doing their job," and set them loose on a mother and her 12 year old daughter. As a self described expert, it is my belief that police officers usually don't lie in wait for people at the mall, hoping to bust them over unpaid fines for speeding.
Kooks And The Cops
I don't subscribe to the anti-American, anti-Semitic Kremlin mouthpiece of a YouTube channel known as Russia Today anymore. To be sure, it's one of the few media outlets that's even close to a bona fide news service to offer interesting perspectives on the "occupy" movement, Julian Assange, and the dark side of the Arab Spring. That said, Russia Today makes no pretense or effort to be objective, and it is, at its worse, little more than editorializing for Russian foreign policy and at its best a forum for more marginalized perspectives. YouTube viewer emptor! This is one of those "better moments" where Russia Today reports on someone GOING TO JAIL for having the temerity to record heavy handed police response. I don't know where the interviewee is coming from ideologically, but I do follow CopBlock on YouTube.

Running Over The Suspect
Burned out police officers or those without the restraint necessary to be a law enforcement professional will most often show their stripes after a car chase. Obviously, law enforcement officers need to do something to get a fleeing suspect in custody, but I'm pretty sure clipping the suspect with a police cruiser and kicking the shit out of him aren't by the book.

The Code of Silence
A police officer, on camera, slams a man against the wall so hard that he's left paralyzed-a quadriplegic. The cops booking him don't believe him at first and call him an actor, a "pussy," and other insults. The officer tried to sit the injured man up, whereupon he promptly fell down again. These aggressive, ambitious lawyers managed to sue the police department in question for $3million dollars, and the officer was fired. No word about criminal charges. As per usual, the officers maintain "the code of silence" as one attorney puts it, and the city was none too eager to acknowledge the surveillance video relevant to this case.

Cops and TSA: When Pigs Fly
There's no point in being anti-police. We don't live in a world right now where we can do without law enforcement.I have had and will probably have to rely on first responders again. On the other hand, policing the police and scrutinizing the corrupt police paradigm is essential. Corrupt authority, all authority really, can't just be blindly accepted, nor can repeatedly failing institutions just continue on as they are with nothing more than a few personnel changes. The cops backing cops attitude has to change. The pigs in this video should have been arrested and should facing serious jail/prison time.
The Police Just Where We Need Them
Police officers roughed up an adult for using a student i.d. to get a cheaper subway fare in New York. The salient detail is that the girl in question was actually 15 and entitled to use a student i.d. On the other hand, I'm sure you're all very relieved to know that New York's finest are on the lookout for those trying to illegimately use student i.d. for reduced fares. It's no laughing matter and, frankly, Homeland Security should be brought in to stem this, the undermining of our public transporation system.

What The Church Considers A "Nuisance."
One of the reasons the Catholic church has been able to historically get away with its many abuses is because of its emotional and spiritual power over its faithful. One would hope that modern Catholics would practice their faith while holding the Church lords and monarchs accountable by treating them like the fallible humans that they are.

A True Conspiracy: Extreme Police Brutality and County Wide Cover Up
From the beginning, the police officers give the suspect confusing and contradictory instructions. Sadly, this appears to be pure malice on their part. They block in the victim's driver's side door, order him to exit the vehicle, then tase him for not exiting the vehicle. The police report's lies become quite clear as it's obvious that the suspect, conveniently out of camera range, is cowed, beaten. A few dozen garbage charges are filed against him, including multiple assault charges, most of them are dropped, but he still ends up spending time in prison. Watch the video-it's worth half an hour of your time as a word to the wise-don't trust anyone because he has a badge and gun.

Standard Procedure
The police officer beats a 66 year old ailing man with dementia. Long after he's subdued or could be subdued, he's stunned in the face by another cop. This is followed with the standard procedure of the department-clearing its own officer and then charging the victim of the beating with assault.

The Untrustworthy Seattle Police Department
Particularly amusing is the officer's factual disagreement with one his victims: "Why did you kick me in the face?"
"I already told you. I kicked you in the chest."
After video footage and solid journalism exposed an untrustworthy Seattle cop making a racist and brutal false arrest, the Seattle Police Department went on to exonerate itself and ask for public trust.

I usually don't care for John Stossel. He strikes me as pretty right wing in spite of calling himself a libertarian, and his exposes have included such gems as revealing the truth about pro-wrestling- we had no idea!. That said, he seems to be a genuine civil libertarian in this case. Cell phones and recording devices along with social media have done more to expose and fight police brutality and tyranny then any concerted political movement has for a long time. A few things worth noting about this segment:1 The F.O.P.-The cop union is opposed to recording the police
2 Washington D.C. police department reflexively backed up their own officer, even though he illegally brandished a firearm in public; I'm sure you take great comfort in knowing that his violent felony got him suspended for 20 days once revealed.

Anatomy Of a Cover Up
Stressed out, abusive cops tend to get progressively worse. Thanks to Officer Friendly, Working at Wendy's Gets A Little Worse
This is a just a beatiful slice of humanity right here-obnoxious cashier, mistaken cop, all amidst the backdrop of one of American's largest and healthiest food chains-Wendy's.... (that part about healthiest food chain was sarcasm). So which was it, officer? Did you make an honest mistake that resulted in you pepper spraying a blameless kid working a shitty job, or was this your cheap way of making a few extra dollars? Of course, your actions were beyond reproach according to fellow officers, however, we live in a split reality because somehow your blameless actions cost your department several thousands of dollars in liability.

Medieval, Right-Wing Catholicism at Its Best
There are a lot of kindhearted and welcoming Catholic officials out there-be they nuns, priests, bishops, honey jarring Trappist monks, whatever. Bishop Robert Morlino ain't one of them. You have to love this guy: pre-recorded messages on gay marriage and abortion before election time, threats to censure church members using canonical law, firing feminist employees of the church, pissing off a good deal of his parishioners, and to cap it all off, ties to American trained Latin American military officials long thought to have been behind atrocities. This man is truly a humble, meek servant of God. His supporters secretly exclaim, "Thank God, the church isn't supposed to be a democracy after all!"

Cops Aren't Allowed to Kick Assholes
Let me be clear. Most of the victims of police brutality aren't blameless. To be sure, you have your kids getting tasered by stupid cops, wound up and fearful police officers attacking complete innocents who happened to be in a crowd, and off duty cops who like brandishing their guns, but most police brutality happens after annoying drunks resist and insult police officers, often for long periods of time. A close second would the post-car chase beating. Suspects disregard the safety of everyone else by driving like bats out of hell, hoping to avoid the law, and once adrenaline crazed police officers catch up with them, they are understandably angry. In a similar situation, I might beat the shit out of someone too. I am not a police officer though. I don't carry a gun, have a badge, nor do I have the authority to detain people. Being a police officer means you have to make good, responsible decisions under stress. Moreover, if I were to beat someone or respond with unnecessary force because I was stressed for a good reason, it wouldn't be my friends and coworkers who evaluated my actions. When stressed out, violent officers are protected by other officers, the police force becomes an extra-legal entity- a very professional, well intentioned gang.

Instead of Spanking, try Tazing
Oh, my beloved, have I not yet convinced you that John Q. Laws should not be equipped with electric torture devices, for casual use at that? Watch this video. I've heard of tasers saving the lives of armed, deranged people by giving police officers non-lethal alternatives, but almost every time I see them used, they are the things of dystopian science fiction.
The Tazer is Torture
Do you feel safer with officers carrying Tazers? It's clear that your average officer does not exercise enough discretion to use this device responsibly. Anytime an officer is annoyed or a little nervous, he now tortures people.
Cops vs Cameras
Most cops just don't like cameras, and it's not hard to imagine why. The best weapon in the war against abusive cops is the camera.

Coma and Brain Damage
Saying it's "police procedure" doesn't make it right. If you saw some high-velocity police officer running at you, you might run too.
High Ranking Church Official Convicted of Covering Up Abuse
"They were much more concerned with the institution than they were with the victims of sexual assault." I suspect that's been the prevailing theme in most of the cover-ups. With souls at stake, we cannot afford to jeopardize the reputation and strength of the church. Pedophiles are destructive, but so are grizzly bears-both can be tracked and put down if need be. Knowing that you placed predators among the sheep and then reassuring the flock that they were safe is a distinct form of evil.

Hawaii Cop Doesn't Like Journalists
It seems obvious enough that uniformed police officers in public areas are subject to being filmed and photographed. In reality, many cops will just arrest journalists or videographers anyway, even if they know their charges against the photographers or cameramen won't stick.
North Carolina
Poorly trained police officers are also culpable for their brutality. Note that the victim is scared and keeps trying to hide behind the more rational cop, hoping to avoid the tall black cop's blows. If the rationale for the strikes was that officer had ordered the suspect to get on the ground, then one might wonder why the police hadn't just pulled him to the ground. Moreover, the victim is understandably panicked. Police officers often order you to be still while at the same time putting you in painful postures that are hard to maintain.

Cops Calling The Shots (West Virginia)
I guess my cultural biases prevent me from being too surprised that there was voter fraud in the West Virginia Democratic primary, but I would suggest that a sheriff attempting to rig elections is an institutional problem.
South Dakota (Some Debate)
Many people aren't certain that this is police brutality, but to me it seems clear that the officer puts this woman in a chokehold for not doing what whatever it is he wants. Was action warranted? Probably, but I'm not a big fan of police chokeholds-it's kind of hard not to resist them..
North Dakota
The Dakotas seem to make for slim pickings when it comes to police brutality and misconduct-at least that's what cursory, unprofessional research would suggest. If I'm wrong, inform me, but credit where credit is due. I guess. I did find an article about a somewhat abusive, unprofessional police officer in North Dakota.

Rhoad Island
The mentally ill don't always fare well in their interactions with cops. The fact that the cops failed to notify family members and their attorney for 15 hours after the victim's death is inherently suspect. I appreciate that this knife wielding man might have been dangerous, but compassion should have informed the police officers action once they had him subdued.

Nevada
I wonder if the vet was overconfident that his status as a returning soldier would accord him special privileges. Either way, he did something that pulled the cop's trigger. If I'm not mistaken, the cops cleared themselves of any wrongdoing here.
Missouri
Notice that internal affairs cleared him-it was only the chief that fired him. In other words, cops don't like to turn on other cops. It was only the politically sensitive police chief that was resolute or savvy enough to fire the offending officer. Do you think this would have played out the same if it hadn't been on camera?
Michigan
The police officer who Tazed the handcuffed man was suspended for two weeks without pay. Even so, ardent police supporters can't imagine what the police officer had possibly done wrong.

This police officer was running a prostitution ring and mailing murdered rats to deadbeat johns. Something tells me it wouldn't be too difficult to get him to beat the right person.

Louisiana.
Yes, this officer was fired, but this is hardly the only case of a disgruntled off duty cop brandishing a weapon or otherwise cracking up on someone. It's good that the mushrooms get picked, but the problem is that they keep on popping up.
Iowa Police Brutailty (Two Dead Dogs)
I think this is an adequate demonstration of Iowan police brutality. There is always the chance here that the victims are lying, but something tells me our bad-ass Iowan heroes were just a little trigger happy.

Okay, so the new state on my list is Delaware. Listen to the audio link below for evidence of police brutality in Delaware. I'm going to skip Florida and Georgia because those two states have more than enough cases of police brutality that are well known.
