You may recall that a year or two ago, an officer from the same department-I think it's safe to say it's not a huge department- was sentenced to prison time for shooting a motorcyclist for absolutely no good reason. I guess working the village beat takes a toll on the officers' psyche.
You and I might have wanted to do the same thing, but then we're not paid to respond to stressful situations, nor do we have police departments trying to cover our hypothetical acts of violence. The deputy was obviously spitting on the "victim."
The Church, which has maintained a superior hierarchical stance towards the public and its faithful throughout its existence, is well known for nuns rapping knuckles with rulers, and priests terrifying altar boys, but sometimes all of this causes us to forget its relationship to right-wing governments and fascism.
We would like to think that we're safer with the police than with others encountered on the street; however, we find less separation between police officers and garden variety thugs than we'd like. I wouldn't be surprised if the Detroit Police Department has some of the lowest recruiting standards in the country.
Apologists for those in positions of authority are fond of the military, the 1% percent and police officers. Although it appears the officers in question here were fired by their department, if you read the YouTube comment thread, these high-strung, possibly homicidal pigs still have their apologists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlOLtH9ziBY&list=WLDB06D92C522D2D3B
S.W.A.T. raids on houses when there are children present are always questionable. It appears the police are already changing their story about what happened here.
It's a pretty safe bet that when the local news is asking questions something isn't right. The description of the video indicates that victim wasn't even arrested by the police officers.
When police officers make bad arrests or otherwise make bad decisions, people are hurt and lives are ruined. That's why cops who break the law or ignore the breaking of the law should be treated with extreme severity, more so than other criminals.
I'm not a gun nut. I think some sensible reforms should, but probably wont, be made regarding gun ownership. That said, I'm perhaps less fond of police officers who whether due to ignorance or authoritarianism flout Supreme Court rulings.
There's no insight I have to offer on this video. This is another example of a cop with an unpleasant, rigid personality. His insecurity is your jail time and criminal record. I've heard it said that certain criminal gangs will pretty much be harmless so long as you show them requisite fear.
This new pope cannot necessarily be blamed for the sins of the Roman Catholic world, but he is obligated to take the fight to an abusive and insulated culture of abuse.
Citizens have the right to expect their police officers to rise above verbal harassment. Being a police officer is doubtless a hard job, so too is being a teacher, city bus driver, nurse, or caretaker for the developmentally disabled. There are, nonetheless, certain lines that cops, nor anyone else, can't cross. That said, cops cross these lines with some regularity, almost always secure in the knowledge that their fellow officers won't take action against them. Did you notice the police officers restraining their fellow police officer? Neither did I.
Another cop trying to cover his tracks by telling his victims to relax. Specifically, a police officer tells this woman to relax while she's getting punched. Bear in mind, this all started when Officer Friendly cracked down on this woman for the heinous crime of riding her bike on the sidewalk.
After shooting a suspect who didn't seem to pose much of a threat to him and getting fired by his police department, this police officer is still claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. Contemplate that.
