The problem is institutional, not individual. Do not grant cops your unwavering trust.

Cop Punches Man, Then Decides not to Arrest Him.
The officers' conversation with the stupid kid in this video is meant to cover their tracks and muddy any further investigation. At one point, after striking the kid, the officer says that he got in his face because he didn't want to "yell." After this kid gets smacked and held down by an officer using his knee, both cops act incredulous regarding their victim's pain. The implication, of course, is that they couldn't possibly have injured him. If the policemen thought for one second that their use of force was justified, why wouldn't they arrest the "criminal" on the spot?
